Internationally celebrated pianists Coady Green and Kevin Tamanini unite to present two stunning works for piano four hands at the Fitzroy Chamber Music Series. Debussy’s groundbreaking Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, in Maurice Ravel’s exquisite arrangement, provides a shimmering, dreamlike opening to the program. Rimsky-Korsakov’s own transcription of his epic Scheherazade follows – a virtuosic, colourful feast of storytelling at the keyboard.
Pianist Chris Wang brings The Romantic Sonata: Three Sonatas, Three Voices, performing iconic sonatas by Beethoven, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. From Beethoven’s noble lyricism to Chopin’s storm, and Rachmaninoff’s fiery passion, experience four contrasting visions of piano mastery in one unforgettable afternoon.

Art Etc explores the divine beauty hidden in everyday life, in this weaving of songs by Samuel Barber, Margaret Sutherland and Aaron Copland. Each of these 20th century composers embraced poetry that witnessed the sublime among ordinary quotidian existence, including poems by Emily Dickenson, Judith Wright and James Agee. Soprano Lisette Bolton, tenor Daniel Szesiong Todd and baritone Kiran Rajasingam will be joined by pianist Kevin Tamanini for this afternoon of divine music.
Liszt and Brahms Four-Handed Virtuosity explores the deep musical and cultural connection between Franz Liszt and Johannes Brahms. From the introspective landscapes of Valléed’Obermann and the elemental drama of Liszt’s Second Legend, the first half traces a journey through poetic reflection and transcendental virtuosity.
The second half brings both pianists together at one instrument, celebrating the fiery spirit of Hungary that captivated nineteenth-century Europe. Brahms’ beloved Hungarian Dances burst with rhythmic vitality and rustic charm, while Liszt’s four-handed Hungarian Rhapsodies transform folk-inspired melodies into dazzling, orchestral showpieces.
Together, these works showcase not only the brilliance of Romantic pianism, but the unique energy and intimacy of four-handed performance - where virtuosity becomes collaboration.
International pianist Andrea Katz goes back to her homeland Argentina in a soul-searching voyage to the music and experiences that shaped her youth, including a meeting with legendary composer Astor Piazzolla. Outstanding local bass-baritone Nicholas Dinopoulos sings songs and tangos by Gardel, Mores, Piazzolla and Ziegler, threaded together alongside some of the most iconic Latin-fused pieces for solo piano.
