Music at Saint Mark's

The Choir of St Mark's with music director Peter Guy (back right)

The choir

There has been a choir at St Mark’s since the opening of the church in 1855, when 'singing boys habited in surplices’ were introduced for the first time in the colony.

Practices have varied over the years, changing with tastes and liturgical styles. Since 2001, the choir has comprised trained singers, supported by choral bursaries, singing a wide repertoire representing the best of the Anglo-Catholic tradition from chant to the modern day.

Directed by Peter Guy, the choir of 8-12 voices sings at Sunday Mass once a month, and for other feasts throughout the year, with members of the choir also acting as cantor on other Sundays. For more information on the choir, or to seek an audition, contact Peter Guy (Director of Music).

The Lindsay O'Neill Organ Recital

An annual organ recital is held at St Mark's in memory of Lindsay O'Neill, the beloved organist who inspired the project to replace our original organ with our magnificent restored Harrison & Harrison organ.

Listen to a recording of the 2019 recital by David Drury.
