Coming up
Join brilliant soprano star Lily Flynn and pianist Charlotte Roberts for a concert celebrating the rich yet often underrepresented legacy of female composers. From the lyricism of Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn to the vivid harmonic world of Lili Boulanger and Germaine Taillleferre, this program honours the artistry of women whose voices helped shape musical history - yet have long remained in its margins. The afternoon culminates in the world premiere of Lily Flynn’s own compositions: works that speak to this lineage while carving a powerful new path of their own. Featuring Clara Schumann’s Op. 3 Romance Variée for solo piano and curated sets of art songs, this intimate and illuminating performance invites audiences to hear these composers not as footnotes, but as forces.
Back by popular demand after a sold-out season, Chilean pianist Ricardo Roche Idini returns with an intimate and powerful reimagining of his acclaimed tribute to Violeta Parra. Joined by the multi-instrumentalist and composer Alejandro Vargas and the evocative voice of Tash Vargas, this compelling performance draws audiences into the heart of Chile’s cultural and political legacy. Now with the stirring music of Victor Jara woven alongside Parra’s, the program offers a condensed yet deeply affecting journey through song, poetry, and protest. Featuring a breathtaking arrangement of Canto Para Una Semilla for piano and two voices, this evening celebrates the resilience, artistry, and spirit of a nation through haunting melodies and heartfelt storytelling.
Following its acclaimed premier at the 2025 fortyfivedownstairs Chamber Music Festival, this extraordinary program returns by popular demand - an unmissable afternoon of bold, rarely heard repertoire. Experience one of classical music’s most revolutionary works in a dazzling display of virtuosity and passion. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, Eroica - a piece that changed the course of music - takes on thrilling new dimensions in Ferdinand Rie’s electrifying quartet arrangement. A close friend and student of Beethoven, Ries distils the symphony’s grandeur into an intimate chamber setting that demands fearless precision and spirited interplay. Internationally acclaimed artists Sophie Rowell (violin), Caroline Henbest (viola), Josephine Vains (cello), and Coady Green (piano) reimagine this masterpiece with fire, finesse, and astonishing clarity. A rare chance to hear Eroica as you have never heard it before - intimate, immediate, and unforgettable.
