The school was one of a number of denominational schools established by the Church of England and was partly funded by the Denominational School Board.

The Old School was originally a single story building.  Some time after its move, it was extended by the building of an additional storey.  The second storey is quite different in construction to the first floor.  Look up from the road and see the numbers and letters on the old stone.  This is how they knew where to place each stone as it was moved.

If you look up from the pathway you will note double doors on the second floor opening onto nothing.  Originally there was a staircase from that entrance that was supported by a structure attached to the Eastern Gallery.  You can see the holes in the stones of the church where the staircase was anchored it.
